Description

To open the show, Amy shares “The Legend of Horseshoe Rock,” a story told years ago by her uncle Sterlen. On Creative Corner, Doreyl and her guest, Peggy Dawson of Tuckasegee, discuss the importance of mulch and methods for keeping insects and rodents out of your garden; Clover’s song “The Garden” follows. Later, Amy’s guest, James Rolland, describes growing up in Swain County during the Great Depression; "Hard Times" by Dirk Powell and Tim O'Brien closes the interview. On Black Roots of Appalachia, Victoria's guest, 94-year-old Syrilda Smith of Sylva, shares memories of her husband and her years as a teacher and librarian in Jackson County; "Home’s Across the Blue Ridge Mountains" by Earl Taylor and Jim McCall closes the segment. On Down Another Road, Judy talks with her distant relative, Bill Rhodes. Rhodes, an Asheville resident, describes his life away from the mountains and shares stories about his grandfather; "There is a Highway" from the Cockman Family follows the interview. The show ends with "Sally Anne" by Henry Queen of John’s Creek.
