Description

In her story "Feed Sack Dresses and Singer Sewing Machines," Amy remembers her mother and her many sewing creations. (“Ookpik Waltz” from the McDowell family of Canton accompanies her story.) On Creative Corner, Doreyl and her guest, Eugenia Johnson—director of the Swain County Center for the Performing Arts in Bryson City—discuss an upcoming community art exhibit. ("Ride This Train" from Appalachian Fire of Hendersonville closes the interview.) Amy's guest, Denise Ballard, shares stories about her grandfather and grandmother and describes the Cherokee way of life she experienced while growing up in the Birdtown community. ("Song to the Morning" from Eddie Bushyhead of Cherokee closes the segment.) On Black Roots of Appalachia, Victoria interviews her 85-year-old aunt, Minnie Casey, about her memories of growing up in Sylva. (The segment ends with "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" from Julia Thompson of Alarka.) On Down Another Road, Judy visits with Ted White of Asheville, 3rd generation square dance caller and musician. (“Turkey in the Straw” by the Square Dancers follows the interview; Stecoah's Vance Trull closes the show with "Orange Blossom Special".)
