Description
In her story “The Eternal Flame,” Amy connects the flames of the Olympic torch to the eternal flame of the Cherokee Indians (located outside the Mountainside Theatre) and the eternal flame within those who carry the stories of generations past. (“Wayfaring Stranger” by Jo Northup and Richard Birt of Asheville accompanies her story.) On Creative Corner, Doreyl interviews Dusk Weaver, director of Jackson County’s Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) program, and 13-year-old Alma Russ, a JAM participant; Russ performs “Handsome Molly.” Amy talks with singer-songwriter Chrystal Deitz of The Deitz Family band about her musical upbringing; Deitz’s song "One Chance" closes the interview. On Apple Butter, Nicole interviews Jacob Jones—winner of the 2012 Mary Jane Queen Memorial Scholarship—about his musical influences. ("Foggy Mountain Breakdown," performed by Jones, follows the interview.) On Down Another Road, Judy visits with Madison County’s Michael Coates whose family started Coates Produce thirty-five years ago. Judy and Coates discuss his family’s farming history and their hunting and canning endeavors. ("The Garden" by Ginny McAfee of Black Mountain closes the interview.) The show ends with "Slumber, My Darling" from Glenn Kastrinos of Cullowhee.
