Storytelling
Description
Amy begins the show with her story “Rain on a Tin Roof,” which tells of her childhood memories of listening to rain on the roof of her house. (Background music: “Misty mountain”) Doreyl’s guest on Creative Corner is once again Rob Hawk from the NC Extension office in Sylva. They discuss a project that distributes short-leaf pine trees to schoolchildren in Jackson County as a conservation project. The interview is followed by “In the Pines” by Dave Van Ronk. On Stories of Mountain Folk, Amy talks again with Joe Rhinehart. He talks about an exhibit at the Jackson County Historical Association’s museum that is focused on the front porch and its role in local culture. Joe also talks about his parents and their lives. “Golden Moments” by Clover follows the interview. Victoria’s guest on Black Roots of Appalachia is Dorothy Mae Worley of Sylva. She recalls playing basketball when she was in school. The interview is followed by “Follow Me” by Appalachian Fire. On Down Another Road, Judy talks with David Knisley of Weaverville, who was a history professor at Mars Hill College. He talks about growing up on a farm in Wartburg, Tennessee. David also talks about his educational background and how he came to teach history at the college level. The interview is followed by “Footprints in the Snow” by Don Reno and Bill Harrell. The show ends with “Rock Andy” by the McDowell Family.
