Description
Amy shares a poem she wrote which became her children’s book Said the Leaf and recounts the meaning behind and why she wrote the poem. The segment is accompanied by “Amaranth.” Doreyl’s guest on Creative Corner is Joshua Wesley Grant of Nantahala. He talks about his craft of making banjos and the various methods and materials he uses to make them. He plays “Arkansas Traveler” and “Elkhorn Ridge” on a gourd banjo of his own construction. “Blackberry Blossom” by Ron Smith follows the interview. On Stories of Mountain Folk, Amy talks again with Boyd Daniel Lee of Franklin, who tells some stories about growing up in Lake Toxaway and in the Franklin area. The stories are followed by “Ole Gravel Road” by the Rye Holler Boys. Victoria’s guest on Black Roots of Appalachia is her 4th grade teacher, Margaret S. Miller of Sylva. She talks with Victoria about her 39 year career as a teacher in western North Carolina. “Ezekiel Saw the Wheel” by Andrews & Lawrence follows the interview. On Down Another Road, Judy continues her talk with Kenny Buckner of Swannanoa. This week he shares some stories about hunting as a child growing up in Swannanoa. “Going Hunting” by the Blue Ridge Rounders follows the interview, and “Little Brown Jug” by Henry Queen closes the show.
