Description
Amy’s story “Within the Groundhog’s Shadow,” is about "Willie" a groundhog that lived in a hole near her aunt’s house. “Circle” accompanies the story. Doreyl’s guest on Creative Corner is Mary Jo Hooper Cobb, who talks about her life growing up in Tuckasegee and her love for the mountains and the mountain environment. She also discusses the importance of conservation and protecting the environment. “As the Deer” by David Bauer follows the interview. Amy continues her talk with Joyce Posey Starr on Stories of Mountain Folk. This week Joyce talks about life in her hometown of Proctor, NC in the 1930's and 1940's. The interview is followed by “Things to Come” an original guitar tune. On Black Roots of Appalachia, Victoria talks with Oridessa G. Baerga, originally from Jackson, Mississippi, who shares her experiences as a youth in Mississippi. “Loneliest Road,” a traditional folk guitar selection, follows the interview. On Down Another Road, Judy talks with Sheila Kay Adams, who tells how she learned to play the banjo. Sheila also discusses and demonstrates some of the different methods of playing the banjo. Sheila’s performance of “Green Willis” follows the interview, and the show closes with “Gonna Lay Down My Old Guitar” by Jim Greer.
