Description

Amy's story “Going to the Movies,” shares her memories of going to the movies at the Sylva Drive-in Theater and the Ritz Theater with her family. “The Offering” accompanies the story. On Creative Corner, Doreyl talks with Rob Bell, with the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the traditional culture of western North Carolina. They discuss the Blue Ridge Music Trails of North Carolina guidebook. “Blue Ridge Harvest Moon” by Appalachian Fire follows the interview. Amy hosts Lara Sanders Chew of Otto on Stories of Mountain Folk. Lara is a storyteller, and she talks about the early days of Macon County, her grandfather's tragic problem with the "fence laws" and other family stories. The interview is followed by “Take Me in Chains” by the Compost Mountain Boys. On Stories of the Cherokee, Shawn welcomes Myrtle Driver Johnson, a Beloved Woman and tribal elder. She talks about the origins of the name “Cherokee” and the importance of Kituwah to the Cherokee. Flute music provided by Matthew Tooni. Judy continues her talk with Susan Moore on Down Another Road. This week they share some of their childhood memories of summers in Hot Springs and Black Mountain. “Black Mountain Rag” by Vance Trull follows their talk, and “Hometown Blues” by the Blue Ridge Rounders concludes the show.
