Description

Amy begins with “Stories Passed Down,” recalling a story that her uncle Sterlen told her mother about how he saved his father during a plowing accident. “Almost Home” accompanies the story. Doreyl hosts Wally Avett of Murphy on Creative Corner. He has just published a book called Murder in Caney Fork, and he talks about his background in writing. In addition to writing, he is a storyteller, and he talks about how he became interested in telling stories as a boy. “Whiskey Before Breakfast” by Ron Smith follows the interview. On Stories of Mountain Folk, Amy talks again with Lara Sanders Chew of Otto. This week Lara talks about her family’s ancestral home in Otto and the log cabin where she and her husband live. She also shares how she makes hats out of rooster feathers and her work as a storyteller. The interview is followed by “Greenback Dollar” by the Queen Family. On Stories of the Cherokee, Shawn shares the Cherokee creation story as it was told to the ethnologist James Mooney during his time studying the Cherokee. Flute music by Matthew Tooni accompanies the story. On Down Another Road, Judy talks once more with Tom Godleski, who shares some of his family’s stories from a ledger kept by his grandfather, including one about a distant aunt and her experiences in Madison County during the Civil War. “Hobo Love” by Buncombe Turnpike follows the interview, and the show ends with “Foggy Mountain” from the album “Fiddle Sticks.”
