Description
The show begins with Amy’s story “I Heered Him A’ Callin,” which tells about how her grandfather was baptized at the age of 75 in the Tuckasegee River. “It Is Well With My Soul” accompanies the story. On Creative Corner, Doreyl talks again with Judy Carpenter of Stecoah, who is associated with the Proctor Revival Organization. She talks about the history of Fontana Dam and the people who were removed before it was built. She also talks about the Proctor Revival Organization and its endeavor to preserve the culture of the mountains. “My Appalachia” by Betty Collins Brown follows the interview. On Stories of Mountain Folk, Amy talks with Robert Hawk and Marilyn Cole in a third interview commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Jackson County Extension Office. Robert talks briefly about the importance of learning from veteran extension agents, and Marilyn talks about her life as an extension agent and her investment in the work, as well as some of the achievements of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension. The interview is followed by “Hometown Blues” by the Blue Ridge Rounders. On This Is My Home, Joe talks with Ruth Crawford of Barker’s Creek. She shares some of her memories of living in Sylva in the 1940s. “Lost All My Money But a Two Dollar Bill” by Earl Taylor and Jim McCall follows the interview. On Down Another Road, Judy continues her talk with Worley Capps of Madison County. This week he talks about his family’s heritage and working on his family’s farm as a child. “Grandpa” by Henry Queen follows the interview, and the show ends with “Little Cabin Home on the Hill” by Lonesome Sound.
