Description
Amy begins the show with “Falling in Love with the Mountains,” sharing some of her memories of growing up in the mountains and describing the motivation for founding Catch the Spirit of Appalachia. “The Offering” accompanies the story. On Creative Corner, Amy talks with Ann Hall and Marilyn Hipps, who are retired Jackson County extension workers. They talk about their work assisting extension agents and helping with projects. The segment is followed by “Smoky Mountain Memories” by Betty Brown. Amy continues talking with Ann Hall and Marilyn Hipps on Stories of Mountain Folk. In this portion, they talk about setting up canned and baked goods for judging at Mountain Heritage Day and some of the things that were entered in the competitions, and they also share some more stories about their work and experiences in the office. “Smoky Mountain Days” by Keith Shuler follows the interview. On Stories of the Cherokee, Shawn continues talking with Nadia Dean, the author of A Demand of Blood. This week she shares some background on the Cherokee War of 1776 as recounted in her book. Flute music is by Bo Taylor. On Down Another Road, Judy again welcomes her mother, Arbie Cook Rhodes, who continues her story of an incident that happened when she was 12 and how her parents made her feel safe afterward. “Back Then” by the Smoky Mountain Boys follows the story, and the show ends with “Smoky Mountain Emerald Bridge” by Ron Smith.
