Description

Amy begins the show with “Welcome to Gary, Indiana,” continuing her story of life as a newlywed with Robert Garza. The story is accompanied by “On My Wing” by Catherine Marie Charlton. On Creative Corner, Doreyl talks with Angeline Schwab, the new executive director of Folkmoot USA festival in Waynesville. She discusses the new facilities made available through an old elementary school. “Old Joe Clark” by the Ross Brothers follows the interview. Amy’s guest on Stories of Mountain Folk is Thomas Cowan of Bryson City. He grew up in Sylva and shares some stories from his days as a first grader. The interview is followed by “Give the World a Smile” by the Inspirations. On Stories of the Cherokee, Shawn tells the first part of the Cherokee legend of Kanati and Selu, introducing the Cherokee to hunting and corn. Flute music is by Matthew Tooni. Judy’s guest on Down Another Road is Dale Stewart, who talks about an expedition he made on the “Water Trail,” which follows the water routes that were used during Indian removal in the 19th century. The interview is followed by “On The Road Where They Cried” by the Cherokee National Children’s Choir, and “Go Jordan” by Andrews & Lawrence closes the show. Rebroadcast on June 6, 2015.
