This photograph by George Masa (1885-1933) is captioned 'Mount Mitchell from Toe River Gap. Motor Road in the foreground.'� Handwritten captions list the prominent physical features of Hallback and Mt. Mitchell. Masa, a native of Japan, settled in Asheville in 1915 and opened a photography studio in 1920. Around 1924, Masa took a series of photographs for a photo album entitled 'Mount Mitchell and Views - Along Mt. Mitchell Motor Road.'� This photograph is on page 3 of the album.
