Description
This photograph by George Masa (1885-1933) is captioned 'Looking toward South from Re-Forest Area of U.S. Forest Service. Motor Road in the foreground also in the first ridge. Note:- The top of Pinnacle, meets a three County Line - Buncomb [sic], McDowell and Yancey.' At the top of the page are labeled the mountains Pinnacle (5693 ft) and Graybeard. Masa, a native of Japan, settled in Asheville, North Carolina in 1915 and opened a photography studio in 1920. About 1924 Masa took a series of photographs for a photo album entitled 'Mount Mitchell and Views - Along Mt. Mitchell Motor Road.' This photograph is on page 8 of the album.
