Description
Jim Buchanan is interviewed by a Smoky Mountain High School student as a part of Mountain People, Mountain Lives: A Student Led Oral History Project. Buchanan shares stories about growing up in Jackson County as well as stories of his Buchanan ancestors dating back to the Civil War. Buchanan touches on his time at Savannah Elementary and Western Carolina University where he graduated in 1983 as a Mass Communications major. He shares his love of history and describes his role as Vice-President on the Western North Carolina Historical Association board. He talks about his time working for the Asheville Citizen Times, including the evolution of producing the paper, and more recently, the Sylva Herald and its importance to the community.
