Description

In this letter of March 31, 1863, Levi Morrison Bogart (1842-1865) writes his “Dear Sister” M. J. Misemer from Vicksburg, Mississippi. He tells about a terrible storm that swept through the valley of the Mississippi killing 9 men. He also recounts an incident that caused a Union ship to sink and its crew to drown. Bogart asks whether or not she gets letters from their brother Solomon Bogart. He asks his sister to ask Sol to send him the $3.50 Sol owes him in silver and asks whose command Sol belongs to. He responds to her remark about prices being high by sharing the price he pays for various food items.
