Description

A road runs through S.S. Haynie’s land in the Alarka area of Swain County. The sloped road bank on the right was seeded to clover, ladino and fescue for stabilization. The bank on the left has not been treated. This photo is from the Tuckaseigee Soil & Water Conservation District, which was formed in western North Carolina in 1957 and became the Swain Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) in 1982. The Swain SWCD’s mission is to provide for a quality environment and higher standard of living while protecting natural resources. The Swain SWCD photographs capture various SWCD projects throughout Swain, Jackson, Graham, Haywood, and surrounding counties in western North Carolina.
