Field damage on McElroy farm

Subject

Agricultural land
Water damage

Description

This newly planted field on Wayne McElroy’s farm has been damaged by uncontained water flow. The reverse reads, “water will find a way downhill. A sod waterway of fescue grass would have carried water safely across this field.” The farm is in the Upper Crabtree community in Haywood County. This photo is from the Tuckaseigee Soil & Water Conservation District, which was formed in western North Carolina in 1957 and became the Swain Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) in 1982. The Swain SWCD’s mission is to provide for a quality environment and higher standard of living while protecting natural resources. The Swain SWCD photographs capture various SWCD projects throughout Swain, Jackson, Graham, Haywood, and surrounding counties in western North Carolina.
