Description

P.S. Ferguson stands in his cornfield with W.G. Davis, work unit conservationist, who is kneeling to examine the sod. Ferguson planted his corn sod in a 10-year-old orchard of bluegrass sod in Swain County. This photo is from the Tuckaseigee Soil & Water Conservation District, which was formed in western North Carolina in 1957 and became the Swain Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) in 1982. The Swain SWCD’s mission is to provide for a quality environment and higher standard of living while protecting natural resources. The Swain SWCD photographs capture various SWCD projects throughout Swain, Jackson, Graham, Haywood, and surrounding counties in western North Carolina.
