Description

A cow takes a break from grazing to pose for a photograph. The cows are grazing in a fescue and ladino pasture on Vernon Ray Parrish’s land in Bryson City. The land had been in corn for the last 10 years. This photo is from the Tuckaseigee Soil & Water Conservation District, which was formed in western North Carolina in 1957 and became the Swain Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) in 1982. The Swain SWCD’s mission is to provide for a quality environment and higher standard of living while protecting natural resources. The Swain SWCD photographs capture various SWCD projects throughout Swain, Jackson, Graham, Haywood, and surrounding counties in western North Carolina.
