Description

Mount LeConte is the 3rd highest peak in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, topping out at 6,593 ft. This view of LeConte was made from Mount Mingus. This photograph, with others in this series, are included in the records of the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club, formed after a group of outdoor enthusiasts hiked up to Mount LeConte in October 1924. The photograph was taken by Albert Gordon "Dutch" Roth (1890-1974), an avid photographer and one of the founders of the hiking club. The back of the photograph is stamped “Jim Thompson Co. Knoxville Master Photo Finishers,” indicating it was probably printed by hiking club member James E. (Jim) Thompson (1880-1976).
