This 1925 photograph is of Chas. I. Barber and Carlos Campbell on top of the west end of Santeetlah Dam. To the left, an 11-foot pipeline is visible. The photograph is in the records of the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club. The club was formed after a group of outdoor enthusiasts hiked up to Mount LeConte in October 1924. Carlos C. Campbell (1892-1978) was a founding member of the Great Smoky Mountains Conservation Association and author of “Birth of a National Park.”
