Description

This week’s show is devoted to stories relating to the 125th anniversary of Western Carolina University. Amy begins with her story “Hoeing Corn,” in which she shares her memories of hoeing corn as a child and how it is similar to the hard work of being a college student. “Sugarland Suite” accompanies the story. Doreyl’s guest on Creative Corner is Erin Tapley, the Art Education Program Coordinator at Western Carolina University. She talks about her work in the local community and the art programs that the university supports. “Sun Drop In” by Mountain Faith follows the interview. On Stories of Mountain Folk, Amy hosts Sara Sutton Madison. She lives on Kitchen’s Branch, and shares her memories of growing up in Davies Hall on the WCU campus and her family’s ties to Western Carolina University. “Cullowhee” by Henry Queen follows the interview. An interview with Scott Philyaw from March 2, 2013, is rebroadcast. He talks about the Mountain Heritage Center and its role. “You’ll Grow Into It” by Terry Edwards follows the segment. Judy’s guest on Down Another Road is her uncle, Martin Cook, who shares some of his memories of going to Western Carolina and how his time there influenced him. The interview is followed by “Lend a Helping Heart” by the Smoky Mountain Boys, and the show ends with “Hog Chase.”
