Description
Amy begins the show with her story “Knotweed and Roots,” telling of her efforts to remove invasive Japanese knotweed and roots from her yard, reminding her of her father doing the same thing. “Killing Me Softly” accompanies the story. On Creative Corner, Doreyl talks with Kitty Love, director of the Asheville Arts Council. She discusses some of the things the arts council does in Asheville, and the value of public art and cultural preservation. The interview is followed by “Home Across the Blue Ridge Mountains” by Earl Taylor and Jim McCall. On Stories of Mountain Folk, Amy continues her conversation with Ken Brown of Sutton Branch, who talks about his work with the Watershed Association of the Tuckasegee River as well as the progress in establishing the Appalachian Women’s Museum at the Monteith House. “Who Will Sing For Me” by the Compost Mountain Boys follows the interview. Next, an interview with Joy Phillips Hoyle from June 20, 2009, is reprised. She and Amy talk about picking blackberries and making blackberry jelly. “There’s a Song in the Air” by Ron Smith follows the interview. On Down Another Road, an interview from May 26, 2012 with recently deceased Tommy Case of Pisgah Forest Pottery is rebroadcast. In this interview, Tommy discusses Pisgah Forest Pottery and the work of his step-grandfather, Walter Benjamin Stephen. The interview is followed by “Darlin’ Cora” by John Analo Phillips, and “Swallow Your Pride” by the Cockman Family closes the show.
