Description

Amy opens the show with her story “I Didn’t Know I Was Poor” about her memories of mountain life and the changing seasons in Cullowhee during her teenage years. “As the Deer” accompanies the story. On Creative Corner, Doreyl continues her talk with Shirley Crisp of Stecoah, who recalls how she met her husband and how her family started and continues to operate a land-clearing company. The interview is followed by “On the Sunny Banks” by Archie Watkins. Amy’s guest on Stories of Mountain Folk is 96-year-old Bernice “Bud” Cowan Higdon, who was born on East Fork. She talks about her family and her work at the Martin aircraft factory in Baltimore during World War II. “Down in Caroline” by Balsam Range follows the interview. On Stories of the Cherokee, Shawn discusses the lessons taught by the Cherokee story “Why Possum’s Tail is Bare” and talks about the various ways the Cherokee use stories. Flute music by Matthew Tooni follows the segment. On Down Another Road, Judy continues to share her great-aunt Maggie Lou Ellen Ducker Corn’s memories of growing up in Arden. The interview is followed by “Singing My Song” by Julia Thompson, and “Just One More Day” by Keith Shuler ends the show.
