Description
Amy opens the show with her story “Riddles of Old,” recounting some of the riddles she heard from her grandfather as a child. “If I Only Had a Brain” accompanies the story. On Creative Corner, Doreyl talks with Betty Brown, who talks about her new album, Singing Appalachian Stories, and she tells the story behind her song “Guy Talley,” which is the song that follows the interview. Amy’s guest on Stories of Mountain Folk is Dot Conner, the daughter of Mary Jane Queen. They talk about making crepe paper flowers for Decoration Day. “You’ll Grow Into It” by Terry Edwards follows the interview. On This Is My Home, Joe talks with Tim Osment, who gives details about Sylva’s 125th anniversary celebration and also talks about the history of the town. The interview is followed by “John Henry” by Henry Queen. The last portion of the show is a reprisal of an October 23, 2010, interview that Amy did with R.O. Vance, who passed away in the week preceding the show. He talks about owning and operating Vance Hardware in Sylva and also shares some memories of growing up and living in Jackson County. The interview is followed by “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” by Andrews & Lawrence, and “There is a Time” by Appalachian Fire wraps up the show.
